“King” Kong

I’m currently raving about Francis Kong.

He came to our office to give a three-hour talk on Work Values. WOW! In my almost four years of working in the Institute, I’ve never heard anyone give such an excellent talk! Not even these people! I was am swamped with work and I had second thoughts coming to this seminar. I’m soo glad I came.

If in your lifetime you’ll get to hear him talk, listen! The man makes sense. And he’s funny too!

Coffee

Lately, I’ve been swamped with work that it’s beginning to interfere in my blog life.

I’ve been meaning to blog about a number of things but now I’m thinking of blogging about work. Boring!

I’m currently handling a 3-week course as an evaluator. I’m also in another course as a participant. I’m also working on a launching project of something. I have a pending report that I have to submit to our ExDir mid-September. Good thing I’m updated in my editing job. Plus, my boss is on leave for another week, making me OIC of the section.

The 3-week course I’m handling as an evaluator is pretty much boring if not for the participants and the training coordinators. I have been handling the course since I entered the Institute. Pretty boring if you ask. I have to sit-in in most (if not all) sessions. It’s not actually a requirement but being OC and a good employee, I stay. This is why I need my trusty mug of coffee… To keep me alive! I’m scared that I might wake up the whole class with my snores.

I’m a participant myself for one of the courses. I’m hoping to improve my grasp of the English language and also improve my writing skills. It’s also pretty boring but the resource person’s reaaaally good. It’s quite challenging because we’re graded in this course unlike some of the courses being offered in the Institute. I was kindda surprised by the 100-item pop quiz on the first day of class. I want more of that. Wait, that sounded kindda geeky to me. =P

The launching project really sucks. Pardon me, but I think if you’re part of the project, you should be at least be informed if there were major changes in the program, right? Like, change of launching date for example. Duh! I told my boss that I’ll never work with them her again. But in this environment, working with her is unavoidable… I’ll just be difficult instead. *evil grin*

The pending report is another story all together. What do you do if you already submitted a 400+-page report for a 6-month training and you’re asked to reduce it to 5 pages? Kill yourself? Nah. You let them wait. Buy time. Then you cut and paste! Eh loko eh, sana hindi na lang kami pina-submit ng 400+ pages na report kung 5 pages lang pala gusto! The beauty of Microsoft Word.

Being the OIC also sucks. When you’re swamped with this much of work, you still have to answer q’s and requests from other sections that sometimes your boss can only answer. Sayang din sa load minsan noh. Then the boss gives you his office keys. He says I can open his room anytime. I’m sometimes tempted to open it, rummage through his stuff (pretending to be CSI) just to get out of my daily routine. Hehe!

I’m also thinking of getting out of here. Although, I’m not restricted on leaves, health care is one of the best, good friends, lotsa things to learn, the promise of transfer, the promise of promotion and overflowing coffee. I don’t know. The last one made me doubt myself.

Simple Pleasures

1. Korean TV Drama

I initially thought it was just a phase and I’d outgrow them but after a few years I’m still eagerly looking for funny ones to watch. I began to have crushes on male leads as well. =P My favorite soaps include Full House (ultimate favorite!), Attic Cat/Rooftop Romance, My Name is Kim Sam Soon, My Girl (I recently gushed about in our blog), Jewel in the Palace/Dae Jang-geum, All About Eve, and Sweet 18. Korean TV Drama List here.

2. Crime Library

Yup, I’m weird. Hehe! I spend hours and hours in front of the computer reading about various crimes, why the assailant did what he/she did, how the police solved it, what happened to the perpetrator, etc. I still remember reading our big book on infamous murders when I was in elementary. I have always been fascinated by the criminal mind and wanted to become a forensic psychologist even before I finished school.

3. Online quizzes

I do not post much of my results in our blog because primarily, it’s a shared blog. Plus, I don’t want to publicize my weird results. Hehe! But, I do take them. Even before blogging and bloghopping became my addiction, I was initially addicted to taking online tests in Tickle. Now, I’m a frequent test-taker at Blogthings. I’ll rethink about sharing my test results. =D

4. Hugs

Every morning when my husband and I would get off from bed, he would give me a great big hug. I would linger for a few moments savoring the hug. When we meet across the room, he would take me in his arms and hug me. When we’re sleeping he would wrap his arms around me until we both fell asleep. I love those moments.

5. Coffee and Dark Chocolate

Two of my favorite foods in the whole world. When a piece of dark chocolate melts in my mouth, it’s pure bliss! On a busy day, a cup of coffee definitely gives me the kick I need.

Ruminations

I have been a bit sad lately. I cannot put my finger on it. But my guess is that it must have something to do with the many changes (or impending changes) around me.

We have been undergoing reorganization and physical transfers here and there at the office. A number of my office friends are being transferred to the far, far island of south wing. It’s actually just 30 meters away. But I still miss them anyway. According to the people here, we will be transferred very soon (translation = 6 months). I’m not too keen on transferring anyway. The room they’re giving us is downright ugly.

Some of the frenchies are leaving too. Two will study in France for two years. One is currently in Australia (for a year). I don’t know who else will be going. Get-togethers will only leave 5 of us in active mode, including my husband. I want to go on a scholarship to France too… with my husband.

I miss having my dad around. For three weeks, nawili ako.

I’m seriously thinking about getting a new job. The idea scares me though. I’m starting to miss small things too… the darn computer that restarts a dozen times before allowing me to log in.
Rain could really be a bummer. I like summer (sans the super heat, bien sur).

I miss speaking in French.

*Sigh*

Other people are in a more difficult situation than I am. Okay, I’ll quit whining now.
